    Smart theme width again

    Morning all,

I had an old post on here about customizing the smart theme for 800 x 600 screens and I have just read it again and changed actswidth to 100% and also made the change from integer to text. This performs a 'resize' in browsers but still doesnt fit quite right on 800 x 600 on most laptops which is something I would like to see.

Would also like to make sure this works on IE, Firefox, Netscape and Opera and ideally I want the size to be just like this, http://www.charlottenaturals.co.uk/ nice site by the way There is a horizontal scrollbar on this site with my laptop, but its not needed.

Can someone give me the details on how to permanently fix this size please ?

    Thanks

    Mick
    Kind regards,

Silly me, I think the overall width is forced by the default logo at the top. I wish people would title new threads accurately so that a forum search does not involve spending ages searching through the wrong info.
    Kind regards,

      Hmmm, obviously not.
Ive done the actswidth thing, table thing, thinredline thing and I still cant get this flipping template to sit nicely on 800 x 600.

A free packet of smarties to the first actinic developer who invents the "change all to 800 x 600 now" button

Can anyone point me to a thread that suggests a step by step laymans guide to making this width change ? I struggled last time and then chose another template but now I have the need for the smart template.

Mick, can you give us the url for a generated page that we can view, and we will tell you what is forcing the width out, but there are too many variables to guess at.

Empty template with width changed from 100% to 750px, something tells me I have a lot more changes to make ?

Its also centralising the main info and wasn't doing this before.
          Kind regards,

You are quite a long way from it. The only table with a fixed width so far is the Logo table - set at 750, but containing an image set at 770 - so that will not work.

I'll cut a long story short and attach a default SMART theme Act_Primary ammended to fit 800 x 600, but you will need to rework that image size.

The file is named text to allow use as a forum attachment, save to the desktop and rename to use the html extension before moving into your site1 folder.

I would run a spyware scan and also an ati-virus scan, before doing much more.

                    Thanks again Bill,

All I have to do now is a bit more "shrinking" and then central align the whole thing. Whats annoying is the fact that im used to wysiwyg editors like frontpage and I just wish Actinic would give us a feature where we could click on an table or cell in page preview and then see the corresponding code highlighted above. Difficult to look at table properties when you dont know which one is which

Like your site bill, very competetive prices too !

                    Mick

p.s. full addware and virus scan removed the offending script, still dont know what it was.
                    Kind regards,

                    Michael

Just reduced all the left and right side tables from 150 to 140 and it cut the corners off the table headers ? Is this because I have to repeat all changes in act_primary and act_brochureprimary ?

Also I cannot seem to reduce the center table beyond a certain point which appears to be around 350 - 400px wide.
                      Kind regards,

it cut the corners off the table headers
That will be because the graphics used for the corners can't fit in the space provided, You may have to go back to the 150.

The centre table will reduce further if you change the ACTSTDWIDTH setting in Design | Options - Site Defaults - but any images may have to be resized to fit.

                          Thrown the towel in again

Thanks for all your help Bill,

I just messed the whole thing up and have now reinstalled again ! I think I may end up setting actswidth to 100% and just pray that I dont upset the 800 x 600 users too much.

Over the years I have designed sites in html and flash but whenever I go near the actinic code I just end up banging my head against the wall

There are many big professional sites that no longer cater for the 800 x 600 resolution so it cant be that much of a problem anymore.

The one thing I definitely want to fix is the huge gap bewteen the center and left / right tables and im hoping its as simple as changing thinred2 to thinred? Actually, that cant be right because 'thinred2' is surely just a border line ?

                          Cheers

                          Mick
                          Kind regards,

                            Now im really confused

Just out of curiosity (and frustration) I reinstalled actinic, opened up the smart template and adjusted actswidth to 100% and advanced/custom properties/ acstwidth text instead of integer. This has now got the homepage resizing properly on my laptop under 800 x 600, which is very handy but also very strange as ive tried many times before without success This is all from the basic template with stock image / text and no user content whatsoever.

Unfortunately if you click on "new section test" it then resizes to a wider screen again, do I fix this in act_brochure primary ? I dont want to set a fixed size at present and just want the brochure pages to do exactly what the home page does.

Any ideas would be great because im baffled ?
                            Kind regards,

Got it, advanced/templates/section/body - change td from 500 to 400. All I need to know now is how to get the gaps between the tables smaller so that they are more 'bunched up'. If no one replies I will just stick to the pulling hair out method

                              Mick
