local images uploaded to site

sorry - I'm sure this is a stupid question, I just can't clarify it in the user guides, but if I have an image for a product on my desktop for instance, and I browse to that in Product Details>General, then it shows up in the preview as a reference to the desktop file.
What happens when I update the site, will this file be uploaded and the path by altered to the new server file?

Usually no, the reference still points to your desktop location. You should move your images inside the site1 folder before you browse to them in Actinic. They can be in a subfolder e.g. site1/images, but when they are uploaded to the web they will all be in /acatalog/
