Links to products from fragments on main page

I use fragments on my homepage to relay info about special offers, new products etc. and link directly to the products in the catalogue using the [LINK] feature. This worked fine until my product range exploded to over 6500 items; now when I click on the drop-down menu I am presented with my entire catalogue in no discernible order. Can anyone tell me what order, if any, these items are stored or if there's an easier way to do this?

It's a real pain trying to find a link item in that list - I no lnger use it for fragments - instead I hard code the link in the fragment such as:
!!<<a href="acatalog/myproductpage.html">My Product Link</a>>!!
