    Help with runtime error please

    Hi

I'm stuck again and would really appreciate some help.

I've got a runtime error in line 72 - error expected ";" Clicked option to debug but don't have a clue what I'm looking for - I've copied lines 71, 72 & 73 below - please could somebody tell me what I've done?

Wow - can't paste it in the forum won't accept it - apparently at 10411 characters it's too long and that was only three lines (is that the problem?)

        Sonia,

It might be easier if you save the text to a .txt file on your desktop and then attach the text file to your post.

I had a look at the page online and could not find anything wrong, and I see from the code that you are getting this result in a local preview.

Can you try doing a Housekeeping | Compact databases, tick both boxes. This can solve a multitude of strange errors.

          Hi Bill

Having read a couple of other posts I'd already compacted the database (and have just done it again) but it doesn't seem to fix it. The website is showing an "error on page" in the brain teaser section but the page still seems o.k. so don't know what or where the error is.

The debugging automatically went into a microsoft script editor but it's an html and not a txt file - when I did a 'save as' it listed as P_shop.html but although I've saved it under a different name it isn't visible within the directory and doesn't seem to allow me to access or view it using the attachment button here either.

Confused What should I do next please?

As Bill says the page is OK online - I presume it's only related to your preview.
Check it online and see if you still see the problem - if you do it's related to your browser/machine.
You could also try and do an offline page preview and try it in your browser outside of Actinic.

I also see that your page takes ages to complete the load (if at all) because of some paypal linking you have running in the code (presumably your paypal graphic from paypal's secure server). I'd consider removing that and hard coding a paypal image instead.

                Thanks Bill / Duncan

You're both right - all seems fine if viewed through the Opera browser but I'm still seeing an error when I come out of Actinic, go online and look through Internet Explorer.

What is a runtime error? Can it cause serious problems if ignored? Are there any other ways of getting rid of it? I would happily attach a txt file if I knew which one and where to find it but am really not too sure. Any suggestions?

Duncan - I've run the url through summitmedia.co.uk and can't see a loading problem - please could you let me know which pages you found slow so I can see if something else is causing it? Thanks.

                  The page I tried was:
                  http://www.sparkofinspiration.co.uk/...easers_78.html
It varies in speed but I still see it is slow awaiting paypal.com response.

I'm still a little confused with your browser checks.
Are you saying that when you view the page online (directly on the internet) that in Opera it's OK but IE it's not? I have tried IE7 & FF - both show no errors. Does it only give the error inside Actinic? And only when viewiing that page?

Look at your page with Firefox (www.mozilla.org) and use its Tools / JavaScript Console to get meaningful error messages.

                      Hi Duncan / Norman

It's strange - when I click the link that you've posted Duncan, no error is showing at the bottom of the page but when I view the page, from outside of Actinic through IE (online) on my machine there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark at the bottom left hand corner with a message saying error on page.

                      screenshot.doc

I've just tried the Firefox console and that also gives error messages (which I don't understand sorry) - I've attached a screenshot of the firefox console. I hope that nothing awful is happening to my computer. Think I'll run a quick back-up just in case.

When you get that Firefox error message, double-click the underlined error and you'll be taken to a detailed source code view of the actual error.

                          Hi Norman

When I double clicked on the underlined error - all I got was the box in blue (as per earlier screenshot). Just tried it again and get the same thing (with an empty pop-up window).

                          Am I doing something wrong?

I finally managed to spot an error. Following the clue that it was a javascript navigation error, gleaned from the blue error box I found this
                            Code:
                            <A HREF="copy_of_Download_a_copy_of_our_catalogue.html"><span class="actregular">Catalogue</span></A>
in the online source - obviously that page does not exist.

I think I now see it in Firefox. If I go to http://www.sparkofinspiration.co.uk/...easers_78.html and then for the Lonpos '101' Pyramid and Rectangular Game product, enter something in the Enter an e-mail address to tell a friend about this item field I get a JavaScript error. The other products on the page work OK.

This seems to be because your Product Name has single quotes in it. Either remove these quotes or replace them with some other non-quote character e.g. Lonpos (101) Pyramid and Rectangular Game
