Low google page rank for downloads page

The key page on my site is my downloads page, this gives a summary of all the products and prices and allows people to easily download the products, however it has a google page rank of zero and I don't know why. all of the other pages on the site seem to get a reasonable rating but this one doesn't.

Can anyone give me any pointers to get it's rating increased.

The URL is www.mole-end.biz/acatalog/downloads.html. It is a page written using dreamweaver which is then included into an Actinic brochure page.

Hi Jan

Looked at the page and noticed that you don't have a "Keywords" meta. Try adding one like this <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="..."> and replace the "..." with relevant descrptors". It will take time for your ranking to change (hopefully up) but without this tag search engines won't be able to rank you.

Google does not read the meta tag keywords.

It is only interested in <TITLE> and body text.

It does not penalise you for using them , but the keyword tag is incresingly not read. As far as I know it is only inktomi which looks at keyword tags.

to increase page rank, you will need some links to the downloads page from pages which have a decent page rank in their own right.

Make sure you have several iterations of your most important keyword on the download page.

Well my downloads page still has a 0 google page rank but is now turning up in google searches. Eg search for Actinic Invoice and it is the 2nd in the list. The third entry has both keywords and a higher page rank but is still below it.

I'm not complaining mind you - just trying to understand it.

Google rating

Your page has definitely been spidered, your problem is the searches you're trying to get high ranks for I guess.

e.g. Search for actinic mailing labels and you're ranked #1
Mainly because no-one else has them.

This in essence is what you want so proves Google is working. You have the product, Google has the skills to find you.


Meanwhile for a term such as "Actinic Invoice", you rank lowly. Primarily because this term only features twice on your page which contains a lot of text so your 'relevance' is low.

If you want to rank higher, firstly get other related sites to link to this page and secondly put more products on or change descriptions of existing products to include the keywords you are targeting.

Alternatively build some feeder pages optimised for Google that target specific search terms - needs to be done right though otherwise a spamming ban will be yours!

Actually I am number 2 for Actinic Invoice on google :-)

I was talking about the google page rank that appears in the google task bar, my downloads page has a zero ranking in this field ... now that my downloads page is appearing in google I am happy, I just don't understand google page rank stats I guess. Previously it was my main page that appeared on the searches.

I read on another forum somewhere (I forget where) that there have been some problems with the algorithm used to work out the page rank on Google's toolbar.

This is a fairly recent problem and I have seen it effect some of our clients' sites.

There also seems to have been some problems with Google's last monthly trawl through the web - I understand they "tweaked" something! The end result is that some sites that were ranked very highly in April virtually disappeared in May!!

After the next monthly update (whenever that might be) you may see your page rank in Google change again (hopefully upwards).

I concur with some of the previous comments in this thread - you need lots of relevant pages (either from your site or external sites) linking to the page you are trying to get ranked.
