URGENT! Running Site From CD (Minus Cart etc)

    Hi All,

My boss is currently at a show, he wants me to quickly pop the site on a cd, so he can show people on a laptop at the show (its a 4 day event).

Its day 2 and he wants me to do it by the end of the day.

Obviously the Cart/Checkout aspect doesnt need to work, but im worried because I use Nor Tree, If I set the Network Settings to install to a directory on my computer, will it automatically assign the addresses to point back 2 folders?

Can CGI run off a cd?

    HELP!

    TIA

    Ben...

CGi cannot run off a CD.
You could copy the files produced in the SiteHTML folder to another folder then copy all your images etc in as well and try browsing, but not sure about your navigation.

You can't run cgi offline - unless you have apache on the laptop - so you won't be able to do what you (sorry he/she) wants.

I tried a GPRS card - wasn't worth the money for what we wanted (and vodafone support was useless) - once you have the site cached on the laptop - the mobile will be reasonably fast.

I just explained that on the phone.

I said that I could put it on one of the lap tops here and send that down with one of the girls...

                He said to leave it...

                Cheers for the help drounding!

Vodafone do contract and PAYG now... I think the PAYG is woth it as a back up incase you are stranded somewhere and need a connection, but untill the WiFi hotspots are more widespread, that is the best option available I think!

There may well be a wireless network (Hotspot)in the show that you can log the laptop into

Vodafone support for the PAYG 3G card was useless (and that's complimentary) - you only get decent support if you go contract (£60+/month). The mobile was a far better option for us - I returned the card after a week, after endless problems that they were completely unable to even come close to solving. I spent literally hours on the phone being passed around from one person to the next.

Sorry for off-topic rant, feeling better now that 's off my chest!

im not sticking up for vodafone by any stretch, but I tend to find that the vast majority of technology or communications companies are hopeless when it comes to support. There are a handful or exceptional techs, and plenty of agency temp, improperly trained telephone monkeys and students.

No offence to anybody, but I worked for ntl: for 11 months, as a 17 year old who could only take local calls, and I got pounded with calls, i was taking 120 to my other team members 20 or 30 a shift. Plus I was acting senior because of my technical knowledge, and I was helping out people who were just there cos they had to be.

Actinic is deffinately an exception, but other companies need to realise it doesnt matter if you have 1000 staff and can handle the call volumes, if they are not properly trained, or just there because the DSS said they have to be, then you are not going to be able to help the customers as effectively as you could.

                          Woah! What a rant!

                          Sorry!

                          Have a good weekend!
