    General Script Error

I am getting a consistent problem when checking out. On clicking Next after selecting my Country and State (if applicable) I get a General Script Error Page which simply states:
    General Script Error Occurred
Error opening ../acatalog/order01.html (No such file or directory)

    This file does actually exist.

I have trawled through 6 pages of similar problems here and the only thing I can gleen from a lot of information is that it may be the smtp server.

My host requires smtp mail authentication and I am aware that Actinic 6 does not support this. I am also aware that there is an alternative from Norman using sendmail, but before I try this I would like to know if anyone else thinks this might be the cause.

Everything else seems to work fine and the site ftp's without faultering. I have refreshed 3 times but still the same error message in exactly the same spot.
Does anyone have any clues please? I'm going a little crazy.

Mark - want to tell us the site name? Just tried this out on madabout and no problem seen - took it as far as how did you find our site and cancelled - emptied the cart and tried to leave - could not - trapped by your redirect - unfriendly thing to do to people.

      General Script Error

The main site is working fine. I am running a revamped design on a test server, it is this that is giving the problem
      www.madaboutjewelery.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

Not sure what you mean by "trapped by my redirect". After you emtied the cart, how did you try to leave and what exactly happened? Now you got me worried!

Looks like it is the OS perl script causing the crash. Have you modified any of the .pl scripts at all? This can happen if the host changes servers or makes other modifications - may be worth re-installing the scripts to see if that resolves ..... Help | Troubleshooting | Website Purge and Refresh ... after downloading any orders... that cured the same error for me when CLARA made vital "upgrades"

Trying that as we speak. Refresh nearly complete. Takes over 2 hours each time! Fingers crossed.

Anxious to hear the details from wjcampbe re this redirect, concerns me a little. Certainly nothing like that initiated by me, the only redirect I know of is preset by the actinic software.

Sorry, went out and bought a car.

When I tried to return to the forum after viewing your site, using the browser back button, I go all the way back to your home page. Fine so far. Now one more click on the back button will take me to my favourite forum.

Click, home page reloaded. Click, home page reloaded. Click, home page reloaded.

            Favourites, forums, actinic - phew.

Now the only thing I know that traps you on a site like this is a catch all redirect which reads redirect * http...address to my site page. I could be wrong, but if you are using a catch all, you might want to change it to a file specific.

              General Script Error

I have had a look and I think the script that trapped you was the page reload, which is there as a debug for Netscape Navigator 4. The odd thing is I don't ever remember putting this in, but I suppose I must have done. Anyway, I don't like the idea of trapping anyone so to avoid this side affect I have removed it, (probably little need for it now anyway).

I finallly resolved my problem last night. I restored the original Orderscript.pl file and the whole checkout process worked fine. Three refreshes later...phew!! Thanks for your conscientious input. I love this forum and have learned that it can be relied on for sound help and assistance.

              Enjoy your new car.
