Page Title Details

    Page Title Details

    On the very top (normally blue line) of the screen there is a field which displays the page title followed by the Browser name.

    In the html it is -

    <head>
    <title>Page Heading Required Here - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx</title>

    But where is this set-up / entered in Catalog v4 ?

    Sorry if this is a bit basic, but I have been hunting for the setting without success ... so any assistance gratefully accepted.

    Open the act_primary.html template and use this code,


    <TITLE>NETQUOTEVAR:PAGEHEADER, NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE</TITLE>

    instead of the title tag you have. This will change page names depending on what your sections and pages are called.

      Many thanks for your reply Gary,

      I tried your suggestion and it worked fine but what I was really after is how I change the text phrase in the Page Title field. Currently it just has the name of my business - "Collectors Supplies".

      I want to do is change that to - "Collectors Supplies - Reference Books & Price Guides on Antiques & Collectables" and use this same phrase for ALL pages. The reason for this is so that search engines such as Google will display this when bringing back the search results. But I don't know where Catalog picks up the Page Title field info from.

      Sorry if I was not clear enough in my original post.

        Replace

        <TITLE>NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE</TITLE>

        in Act_Primary.html with

        <TITLE>NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE - Reference Books & Price Guides on Antiques & Collectables</TITLE>

        That should sort you out

          Chris has one way of doing it similar to my original post but to answer your question, you can edit the catalog name in the catalog tree.

          It is better to use the page titles for the search engines. if you try this link you will see what I mean.

            Many thanks for your replies & help.

            I have taken Chris's way of getting the text I want to the Page Title field.

            I looked at Gary's links and see what he means as regards Google's results. This is something I will probably take on board when I do my next major re-vamp in the New Year.

            When I tried Gary's "you can edit the catalog name in the catalog tree" - my catalog name is "Mail Order Book List" - not "Collectors Supplies" - so I am still none the wiser as to where Catalog picks up the info to go in the Page Title field. Just intrigued ...

              the stuff in the blue title bar comes from 2 sources.

              Assuming that you are using Gary's suggestion of <TITLE>NETQUOTEVAR:PAGEHEADER, NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE</TITLE>

              PAGEHEADER comes from the catalog tree, ie what you have called each of your sections.

              PAGETITLE is the company name set in business settings.

              Gary's suggestion is the better one because it is better to have different page titles for each page, you will get more search engine positions for more of your keywords.

              Chris's suggest is ok, but it is not so good to have the same page title thoughout the site.

              Take your choice depending on how well you want to do in search engines
