Per Word Sale

Is there anyway to buy an item per word. E.G if we sold a cake and wanted the customer to be able to add wording to it paying by the word

Yes, have the cake as a product with words as an optional component.

Then the customer would select the optional number of letters they wanted at 10p per letter (or whatever). They would also need to complete the additional info field with the words they wanted to appear.

This should work. I haven't tried it myself but the only thing I'm not 100% sure on is whether you can set up the optional number of components. Maybe someone can verify this?
