    Hi there,

I'm afraid this issue will require futher investigation. Hence I would suggest to contact Actinic support if you Actinic cover or register an email query @ http://actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm

Whilst Actinic will work on a Windows Server it is not the easiest to set up, and normally requires a swiched on and helpful host.

You may be better off in the long find finding yourself a host who is experienced in setting up Actinic, search the forum to see who everyone else is using/recommends.

You will get better support then

I hope your big toe gets better soon.

The problem I have with the actinic software existed on the Oneandone Linux server and now on the Titan Windows server. In that I cannot get the shopping cart to work. The site is loaded : www.champ64.co.uk/acatalog but it seems the perl scripts are a problem.I would dearly love to get this sorted once and for all as I have another site I am desperate to write and get hosted.
I have tried all the network settings, sometimes they test ok other times it gives me a 400 error on the same settings. It is very frustrating.

Same issue is it with both hosts, different OS's (Linux / Windows) then maybe check that if you have customized your scripts or links that they are connecting to the correct named and numbered scripts (unless you do not touch these and no custom menus are used)...

Strange you should have the same with 2 totally different hosts, but maybe check that out to see how you get on - never know.

Ok, if the copy of Actinic has no customisations, and the site doesn't upload to either windows or unix servers then it is doubtfull the host is at fault. Have you investigated things like router/firewall etc on your PC.

If this draws a blank then I would suggest registering for Actinic Trial space.

Save your current site somewhere safe (ie copy Site1 folder)

Then reinstall Actinic to its default settings and tried to upload - without doing anything except network settings.

The site does upload, partially as you would see if you followed the link .!! I also explained it was the shopping cart that doesn`t work!
                  Thanks

People who have nothing to do with you or your hosting are trying to help you, with suggestions on getting you working, but to be honest the only people that can help you are you hosts, as they can check the logs.

FYI: Looked at your site for which the document root is forbidden and the cart works just fine online - just your issue with uploading at this present time which is the issue.

                    bump -

The cart seems to be working OK for me. Is there an upload problem and if so what happens?

Checking your previous thread I see that the problem with 1and1 was that you were on the linux home package that doesn't support perl scripts like actinic.

This is a very annoying business in that there are many people who think they know what they are doing and clearly dont!! Take oneandone for instance , they told me the server space I had was suitable for Actinic and would run all scripts !! They also said I needed a mysql enabled server to run the databse for the site!!! Being new to this thing I ran backwards and forwards from host to software provider all claiming it was the others fault.
I appreciate this is a voluntary thing and I am nowhere a web designer or expert and appreciate any input any member here gives however small.

But.... my site still doesn`t run properly as far as I see it my cart doesnt work , I cannot upload anything new to the site as I keep getting a 400 bad request message even though new pics are going through fine.Sometimes the network settings test fine , most time they dont. When I annalysize the site the test hangs on Perl guesses and stops.Firewall off!!
I would really appreciate someone with some knowledge of how to get this software working !! Its Ver 4 on a Titan windows server.Unmodified and bog standard!!
Even offering some free merchandise to the right candidate!!!

                        Thanks

Ok. Your cart doesn't seem to be working for me today. Strange, but it was working yesterday.

Looking at the error message about http headers lead me to this thread. It suggests that Actinic V4 won't work on windows 2003.

                          http://community.actinic.com/showthr...t=http+headers

Sorry, as I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear, but I can only suggest you either get a more recent version of Actinic or try a linux host. 1and1 business is pretty good and not that expensive.

Funny its working now although the search function does not.It transpired certain .pl files were missing from my cgi-bin folder so I managed to transfer them via another ftp programme.
But ealrier the checkout was not working and all of a sudden it is...its all very wierd

So the problem seems to be related to files not being present on the server (and this is also what the search error message indicates).

There are two things that need to be checked.

                              1. The network setup you are currently using.

                              2. The permissions settings that you have on your server directory.

The network settings you should be able to post here. The permissions setup should be 755 on the cgi-bin and acatalog directory (these are unix settings) and I don't know how to set these in windows but a search here for "windows permission settings" should provide the answer.

                              Mike

Edit: OK. This thread http://community.actinic.com/showthr...ws+permissions explains what settings are needed on windows servers. Get your host to check that this is set up properly.
