Probably the most stupid question of the day, however could someone tell me what is the difference between:
    www.xxxxxx/acatalog/index.html and
    www.xxxxxx/index.html
    Thank you.

The first is the home page of your Actinic catalog, the second is the root homepage of your domain.
If you decide to use a brochure page as your root domain homepage (the little house icon in Actinic - and check 'Use as Website Homepage') then it will become the second one above and your catalog will be the first one.

web servers usually serve up the file (webpage) that is specifically asked for. In the absence of a file being specified they check for a common default to use in it's place. 'index.html' is usually the first one they check for, followed by other file extensions, .htm, .php, etc, then a few other filenames such as welcome, etc. If they can't find a default page to server up they'll usually list all the files in the directory or throw up an error.

Oops - my fault - moved the homepage proper to the site root and forgot about the .htaccess rule in place picking up the existing path in the template when it was in the /acatalog/ folder
