    quantity and postage setup help

i have a problem that seems a bit complicated to me, this is what im trying to do.
    this is the page http://www.racewaysdiecastmodels.co...._Tyre_Set.html

i have it set up in 2 different sections at the moment, one for 2 tyre sets and one for 4, but i want it all on one section so the customer would pick if the wanted 2 or 4 tyres while at the same time picking tyre width.

They are sold either by a set of 2, or a set of 4. after they choose quantity obviously the postage costs are different so that also needs to change.

any of that make sense lol, much appriciated any help on this.

pick either 2 or 4 tyres and the postage changes with it basically i think is the simple way of saying it.

The easiest is to give each tyre or tyre set a weight and use the shipping by weight option under BUSINESS SETTINGS > SHIPPING AND HANDLING > SHIPPING

hi, yeah ive done that, but i how to i give 1 tyre 2 different postage weights

      2 tyres = 2.00 (£9.50)
      4 tyres = 4.00 (£19.00)

if i were buying i'd choose say a 4 tyre set at whatever size for £75.00

so the order would be £75 x 4 + the postage for 4 tyres

      or

say a 2 tyre set at whatever size for £75.00

so the order would be £75 x 2 + the postage for 2 tyres

that better help? im pretty confused myself trying to explain it lol

You would use a table whereby the cost of the postage is based on the total weight of the package for each location you are delivering to - see attached image

ive went through the order process

          as seen in attached pic.

see i bought 4 tyres but its done in as 2 and not added the postage onto the price.

i've got 2 components setup now. 1 for tyre size and 1 for number of tyres.
ive got the tyre set with a weight of 200 (£9.50) what im wanting to happen is obviously when people order 2 tyres postage is £9.50 on top of whatever the price of tyre. and the same if they order 4 tyres the postage double up the weight of 200 - 400 increasing the postage cost.

Sounds confusing - why do you need a component for quantity? The product should have a quantity field already, which will multiply the product weight by the quantity.

It sounds as though the product is begging to be set up as PAIR. Customer can buy 1 pair and get the postage charged according to the weight you have set on the product .

If customer buys 2 pairs, the weight would double and they would be charged the postage cost in your table for that weight.

If you don't have different rates for different countries you could make it even simpler and set the weight as zero (0.00) and just include the postage for a pair of tyres in the product price. (You can then advertise 'no additional postage')

              confusing indeed.

i just want to be able to either buy 2 or 4 tyres, or multiples of 2.

the component parts are just something else ive been trying, as im not sure how to achieve my goal ive been trying different ways.

I think Bill had the right suggestion for you. if you however would like to still use components what you could do is to create a product and then components for '2 tyre set', '4 tyre set' etc. You can then create products to match each of these components and hide them on the website, this will allow you to assign a weight to them. You can then associate the component to the hidden product.

                Kind regards,
