Simple Search disappearing

How comes simplesearch disappears from some pages? For example, in the results page from a previous search, it disappears.

Is this something I am doing, or designed this way?

It not you - that is the way it is. I think the intention is that at the bottom of the results page you have a search entry box anyway - but it's not very consistant.
