    PNG or JPG

What do most people use now days for header images? I tend to stick with PNG, however, my current logo is close to 20k, but a reasonable version in jpg is only 14k. I thought PNG was just as good as jpg for sizing, or is something more inbetween bmp for quality and jpg for size?

Is there a way of shrinking PNG down?

    Thanks,
    Paul.

png was intended to replace gifs, it is a lossless format. The quality is more easily controlled with jpgs.

If you have viewers with legacy browsers best to avoid PNG formats. You can generally achieve the same effects with GIF or JPEGS and maintain full browser compatability.

Cool - I have moved to jpg and made the image slightly smaller so its a bit more manageable now.

          Thanks,
          Paul.
