Actinic will not create unique order number - any ideas ??

Actinic has suddenly got a problem, anybody got any ideas? Customers can go all the way in checkout, but when they choose to go to secure server payment or send card details over the phone, this is the message they get.

An error occurred while creating the order number lock file (%s). The error was %s. Actinic Ecommerce can not create a unique order number and can not continue. Please contact us directly with your order.

Yes, problems now clear. I called support which was very good this morning. As always these problems happen just before Bank Holidays etc. I suspect the problem was Host server driven to start with.
