    Email problems 1and1

    Hi again

I'm having some problems with setting up the automatic emails.

I'm hosted on 1and1 - and I was having problems with the smtp server - couldn't even get a test message.

I contacted 1and1 who were less than helpful, but now when I try to test it I get this message:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.

    Then I get:
    Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
    server: passed
    connection: failed
    sockets: passed
    communications: failed
    authorisation: failed
    message: Connection refused

Can anyone offer any advice. I'm not sure what to do next?

Thanks in advance - hopefully one day I'll be able to post helpful responses to people rather than just keep on asking questions!

Tell us whether you're on a Windows or Linux server and also what's in the Advanced / Network Server / SMTP server box.

I had the same problem and overcame it by changing the SMTP server setting (Advanced | Network Setup) to:

auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk instead of auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk(or something similar??) that is detailed in the 1&1 online help.

Also uncheck 'username and password required'.
