    fasthosts ssl upload problems

    hi,
this seems to have been covered loads of times but i cant find the answer in previous threads, so sorry if this is boring...
after many problems trying to get uploaded to fasthosts linux server, i finally managed to do it without the ssl checked in the business settings.
question is.... i want to run my site with ssl enabled.
    heres what happens

view / business settings / payment & security / check the ssl for the whole site / configure ssl settings

my settings are exactly what fasthosts help suggested

    Catalog URL: https://vault2.secured-url.com/myname/acatalog/
    URL: https://vault2.secured-url.com/myname/cgi-bin/
Codebase: ./ (The path From CGI-BIN to acatalog)
    Directory: ../acatalog/
    Server Host: 213.171.193.5
    Username: SSL_myname
    Password: (my password)
    Path to CGI-BIN: /cgi-bin/
Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP server: ../acatalog/
    Use Passive FTP Tranfer: ticked.
    CGI Script ID Number: 1
    Extension: .pl
    Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.siam925.com
    Website URL: www.siam925.com
Path to the Perl shell: #!/usr/bin/perl
    Ignore Passive Tranfer Errors: ticked.
Use Relative CGI-BIN URLs in Catalog Pages: unticked.

    URL https://vault2.secured-url.com/myname/
    USERNAME SSL_myname
    FTP HOST ftp.secured-url.com

the test runs okay but i dont get a confirmation email.
when i run the wizard i get as far as type in your url starting with http://

    so i type in https://vault2.secured-url.com/mysite/

    and i get error message

the wizard received an error while veryfying the webserver.error sending request

if anyone else had this problem how did you resolve it?

    thanks in anticipation

Ok I am now assuming that actinic works completely ok without SSL enabled, ie you've uploaded the site and tested everything including a purchase and the search script...

Now the final part of the jigsaw is SSL?

    Question 1

    why are you using

view / business settings / payment & security / check the ssl for the whole site / configure ssl settings

and not checkout pages and Customer login only?

    Question 2

Bear in mind I know diddly squat about how Fasthosts set up SSL why is your URL https://vault2.secured-url.com/myname/

    and not www.siam925.com

    Question 3

The wizard says "when i run the wizard i get as far as type in your url starting with http://"

why do you respond to this by typing in a URL that starts with https

    Question 4

Have you searched the forum using the keywords "Fasthosts SSL"

    I found these threads

    http://community.actinic.com/showthr...=SSL+fasthosts

    http://community.actinic.com/showthr...=SSL+fasthosts

Hi......from experience, if your planning to use the SSL you get with the Fasthosts Linux package to take care of your card payments....I'm afraid it won't work....sorry.

I spent a week trying to sort this out.....as many on here will testify, only to end up using Actinic SSL instead. Had it up and running within two days.

On the other hand......if your planning to put your whole site on Fastshosts SSL....this may be possible, but I ended up not going down that path due to the size of my site

        Hi,

I've had my site up and running on a shared fasthosts SSL folder for a while now with no problems. You can't split your payment pages out though, you have to put the whole site on the SSL folder. This is because the SSL space sits on a different host from your main web space and Actinic doesn't know how to hop between this web space and the SSL folder. I'm actually in the process of moving over to a dedicated server now because I'm running out of SSL space.

Here are my network settings, they may help you spot your problem.

        Regards

It seems that my questions 1,2 and 3 have be answered by others....

Shabbie you are using URL https://vault2.secured-url.com/myname/

which is SSLFTPHOST which Fitnessjunkie says this should be ftp.secured-url.com

i'm waiting for hsbc to setup secure card payments for me, do i still need ssl with fasthosts ?
ive also checked again on fasthosts help thingy, actinic users are supposed to setup the whole site as ssl enabled....
ive been trying all of your suggestions and still cant get past the website address command in the ssl setup....whatever i type in it just gives me the same old error message!

if you are going to be using HSBC to process cards online for you then no you don't require your own SSL cert.

You only need SSL on your site if you want to download credit card details to process offline yourself. If you are going to use an online service then you won't need it.

An exception would be if your PSP gave the facility to load a logo or something of your own to use on their payment pages then your logo would also have to be on at least shared SSL otherwise users would get a security warning message.
