System Configuration after hard drive failure

Hope this is the right section to post this request.

We have had a hard drive failure and copied the backup (phew!) to a new drive.......

We now get an error that states "Not A Valid Bookmark" when starting Actinic, and we cant open the software. We also get a message saying the system isn't configured correctly and Actinic Ecommerce cannot function. We have reinstalled the relevant database components and removed and reinstalled Actinic with no joy......

After Actinic is reinstalled, it works fine with the default site1, but when we copy our original site1 contents over, we get the above problem.

    Can anyone advise/help ?

    regards

    Mike

Try compacting and repairing your old database. That error is a database error and it usually means that you have tried to look at an open table that has been changed by someone else. It is possible that your old site1 database has been corrupted during the hard driver failure.

Sometimes, just the act of opening and closing the database file using Microsoft Access (if you happen to have a copy of it running on your PC) will help.

When you open a corrupted database with Access it will offer to repair it for you.

      Hope that helps

If you don't have access you can repair a database by going into the odbc settings in control panel (under administrator settings in some cases) and selecting the ODBC settings (ActinicCatalog6) and choosing the 'repair and compact' option and I think that the 'compact' option might well do the same.

Thanks..................done the repair bit and when opening Actinic, i get a message saying products are orphaned, and after selecting Yes to fix them, the catalog is all over the place. Also get errors for runtime and wrong phases when trying to preview.

Tried this: After renaming backup.mdb, opens ok and then gives an error saying "The specified layout preview could not be loaded (wrong assesment in ini file or bitmap file is missing!)...clicking OK opens Actinic fine and the catalog products are as they should be.

Previewing the pages is ok, although no images can be seen.

Any thoughts ?,..........dont want to upload new currency rates in case we get into more trouble....

Will it help if i paste the diagnostic readout here ?

          Regards

It sounds sorted to me. It does looks as if your Actinic database got zapped when the drive went.

The only other thing that you could do to preserve your site while you check it out would be to upload to some temporary webspace and check it out there.

Had you made any changes since the backup - thinking logically if you create a backup everytime you exit it should be as up to date as possible.

              Cheers Jan

Not happy about the initial "ini" error, but will live with it if we have to.

Try copying 'BrochureTemplates.ini' from 'Actinic Ecommerce v6\Formats\themes\Business' into your 'Site1' (or equivalent) folder.

This should sort out the ini warning message.

                    That's a pity.

Try all copying all *.bmp files from 'Actinic Ecommerce v6\Formats\themes\Business' into your 'Site1' folder.

If your design is based on one of the clean layouts then you should also then copy all *.bmp files from 'Actinic Ecommerce v6\Formats\themes\Layout1' into your 'Site1' folder.

                      Chris

Copying all bmp files over did the trick.

                      Thanks for your helps.
