Variable 'add to cart' button text

When using a text 'add to cart' button (design options / shop defaults) is there anyway of getting a NETQUOTEVAR or CUSTOMVAR in there? I've tried using !!<>!! but it doesn't work...

What I want is a button that says something like -

"add (productname) to cart"
