Is it possible to have additional text on the same line as the H1 or H2 tags

    eg

    <h2>Stardust Kids for</H2><h2>NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONNAME</h2>

    Thanks

Take on Malcolms advice regarding overuse and cloaking of header tags.

Correct layout grammer should flow from h1 through to h5 down the page as if it was laid out in book ... largest title first and then small "sub-titles" to break the rest of the page into categories.

Accessability checks will hammer you if you do not nest header tags correctly

        You should just use

        <h2>Stardust Kids for NETQUOTEVAR:SECTIONNAME</h2>

it will look the same on the page and will be better use of the HTML tags

Should a section name always be H1 then. Description H2

AND I should not put them in a sentence.

I am confused as one thread told me to make H2 breadcrumb and H1 description.

          Thanks

the key here is balance and not overkill

thus I wouldn't use H tags for section names as there will be more than one H1 tag
we have discussed in other threads about using H tags that you should only have one H1 per page

on a section page I probably wouldn't use H tags at all

yes sorry you have already said to use them in Act_ProductLine Act_Parent.

I have got the H <> confused with simply what I want the customer to read!

I am with Jo on the overkill of header tags - they need to be used with care and thought - as with any other SEO work.

Be careful with the breadcrumb trail and how you add any <h2> tags etc into it ... you can easily end up with several <h2> tags in a row depending on how many subsections you have. I would be inclined to wrap the breadcrumb into a <div> and add the <h2> tags there and removing any <p> tags if they are forming part of the breadcrumb.

Again - this may add weight in SEO (possibly) but is not the real correct use of the header tags IMHO as <h2> is high on the hierachy and should be page specific (keyword rich) but if in with the breadcrumb you will get say the first 3 or 4 words possibly being the same for each subsection which could make search engines think it is the same page title! No empirical evidence but it is not something I would dabble with

Could you tell me what is safe to do. I don't want an over kill or try to do anything clever. Just a little SEO

I get confused when you talk about the breadcrumb. Is this the Act_Parent _Section_Line file.

it isn't really possible to say what is safe and what isn't. Everyone has their own level of what they feel to be acceptable. SEO is a very grey area and changes from week to week.

You have to weigh up what you can do to a page to please SE spiders whilst also making it appear that your page has been designed for the human visitor in mind.

The way that most of us have learnt is by visiting many SEO websites reading and researching and also reading between the lines. Then taking this advice and adapting it to suit our own purposes. SEO is a long haul.

When I add more pages to a site, I concentrate on keyphrases in the body text and title - this only amounts to ensuring my chosen key phrase appears twice in the text either as a phrase or as separate keywords or sub phrases, all other things ie H1 tags etc are secondary to me.

If I were you I would be concentrating on getting all products one product to a section and getting the title/keyword text combo correct for these pages, then wait and see the result.

I have been warned that 1 product per page may not be good because I may not achieve a 100 minimum and also my pages may appear like duplicates. Although each product within my section is unique. However some product do appear in other sections for the benefit of my customers eg cool baby t-shirts contains all my t-shirts but elvis themes designs also appear in section Baby Elvis.

Also if a customer comes in one a page that just has one product it may not offer a good choice. However, I'm not sure if this is good advice because I do have a left hand menu and there are link to to other sections within my descriptions. Also I has going to add 'Upsell' to each subsection product page.

I see no reason why your pages should appear as duplicates. The main (single) product page is where the main extended product info needs to go. All duplicates in different sections in your site can be placed in different orders and you can also modify the short description to be a bit different each time.

The main reason I went to one page per section was not SEO - I looked at other big name sites and saw that the majority had that approach. I think the reasoning is not primarily SE (which unfortunately sidetracks us all) but the simple sales principle of channeling (or funneling) the prospect into less and less choice the closer they come to making a purchase. So broad overview - selection of similar products - detail of chosen specific product - and cart (hopefully).

I can also see the sale side. The thumbnail makes the products look nicer and avoids a long list of products to scroll down.

yep me too, I visit amazon from time to time looking at what they do and then decide if there is anything they do which will improve my sites

Looking at Amazon showed me how best to integrate Cross Sell Pro, ie one page per product with people who bought this etc, product ratings etc

At present Geraldine you are getting lots of replies to your questions but you should take a little time to digest the info and work out which suggestion is best suited to your shop.

Thanks Jo. Perhaps I am asking too many questions. Sorry. I am just trying to understand all the pro and cons before I decide what to do.

                              Thanks everyone
