    question about design

    hi

i have queston if is possible to redesign the actinic template if i build the store with all information and i upload to server.

    this is my idea:

i download the cataloque from server with all the stuff and i open with dreamweaver
i change the design and finaly i upload to the server without touching cgi so that mean i just change a bit on html.

    i think is possible

just now i dont know how about the actinic software if actinic recognize the change?(i think actinic comunicate just with cgi)

i build catalogue for company on my laptop but i dont know if is possible to join this catalogue from server to fresh actinic instalation on the different PC,
i mean if is possible to inport the new design with catalogue to freshly installed actinic

    thank you for help

    sorry for my engish

If you download the html files, make some minor changes and upload then next time any change was done in Actinic and uploaded you would loose the previous changes.

You must really make all changes using Actinic and it's templates. You can use DW to edit and manage the templates if you wish.

You can export a site snapshot that would be able to be imported onto another PC loaded with the same version of Actinic. If you wish to have more than one site on a PC then you will need the required Actinic licenses on the PC too.

If I understand you correctly you wish to create an online database with a flash front end to display products. You will find this hard if not impossible with Actinic. Actinic does not use an online database and all the store pages need to be generated using Actinic software offline and then uploaded to the server with Actinic.

The best thing to do first is to download and read the Advanced User Guide from the Actinic website. It explains how Actinic works and how it can be modified.

I have used both Actinic and the other cart you refer too.

Personally i prefer Actinic because I feel it is more robust, there is more in the out of the box solution, additionally my skill set is more geared to HTML and not PHP/CGI - thus another reason for prefering it

The main issue for me with the other cart is that it requires a more technical person to build the site as the basic install is quite basic (hence my comment above about out of the box). Thus you spend in time adding contributions what you could spend on the initial pruchase. Actinic also attracts self builders.

Actinic is very flexible once you have got past the initial learning curve. You can bend the design to do anything you like. You can choose to use the database side of it and ignore the front end compleltey (there are lots of people who do this also)

Maybe if you told us what features you require from your new shop we can then tell you if Actinic is the best solution for you.
