    site closed

    Hi there

I have a client who wants to close his site temporarily while he revamps the whole site.

I broke the connection form the home page, but someone obviously had one of the internal shop pages in his favourites as they still placed an order.

Is there any way of closing the site down without having to totally take everything down from the server?

Business Settings> Untick the 'ordering allowed' box. Do a refresh and all the buy now buttons will have gone.

Set the site to suspended and change the text option for the field to read something like; closed for maintenance.

It would be unwise to remove the site as the search engines would certainly penalise should they find nothing there!

You can also change the permissions on the cgi-bin to stop the checkout from working.

this does have the knockon effect of killing the searchscript too (and navigation if you use the cgi/ss script nav). Its only to be recommended as an emergency solution - I've had to use it to suspend a site without access to the pc operating the upload/download

To do a proper Suspend - Business Settings|ordering tab

            Jan,

            To suspend:

Business settings/ordering - top left tick box

            To Change display message:

Design/ text/ website(cont)/general info/ it's reference is ID335 but should be obvious which field to change text.
