Please can you let me know also if there is a fix for the login page being different from the others for the standard links to work. Thanks.

The login and search pages use Act_PrimaryCheckout and on this page the section links do not appear as the corresponding NETQUOTEVAR does not function in this area. The solution is to either hard code the links on the above mentioned template, or to use the Javascript solution provided in the Advanced Users Guide.
