Royal Mail: Pricing in Proportion

As you are all no doubt aware Royal Mail are introducing a new system of pricing in proportion, basically a volumetric and weight based system.

I take it there will be a patch to account for this new developement?

How are other users of this Catalog going to deal with this?

I will not be changing shipping calculations. If anything I might need to alter the pricing of some products to accomodate any increase in postal rates due to larger volume.
I believe customers want very simple shipping costs and I wouldn't want to complicate things with tiered shipping charges on different items.
