    Test Sites

I've recently taken over a fairly substantial site built in Actinic Business 7. I'd like to make a copy of the site on the same machine so that I can try out different design options without risking the integrity of the live site. How is this done? It only seems to support one site.

Similarly I'd like the scratch site to publish to our internal network web server (IIS) so I can preview the site changes properly with all the navigation. Is this possible?

Actinic only allows you multiple sites if you purchase another site license. This is probably overkill for you.

You'd be much better installing the same version of Actinic onto a spare system and using the Snapshot facility in Actinic to move a copy of your site over to it. Then it's easy to change the network settings to point it at your own test server.

If your IIS installation isn't compatible (Perl problems, etc), then it may be easier to install Apache, Perl and WAR-FTPd onto the spare system. Full details are in the Advanced Guide.

If you really have to develop on the same system as the live site then you could use VMWare Worstation to install a separate virtual machine, Windows and Actinic. I use this technique so I can run several different releases, e.g., 7.0.4, 7.0.5, 7.0.6 on the same computer.
