Best method for shipping?????

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently updating my site which can be viewed at: www.aloeveragifts.com (comments and feedback much appreciated - but it's not finished yet)

One of the things I'm trying to do is arrange for only 1 type of product to carry a shipping charge - and the rest of the products to be shipped free.

The charge is only 50p per item- however if the customer orders 4 or more I'd like to have the shipping charge set back to zero

Can you please advise how to do this?

If I understand you correctly, all products go post free, except one particular product, which is 50p per item, but 4 or more go free.

If this is the case, the work around is quite easy.

Set postage to calculate by weight.

Set the default weight of your products to zero.

Set the weight of the chargeable item to 1.

Set up your postage tables (by weight) as follows:

weight = 0 charge 0
weight = 1 charge = 50p
weight = 2 charge = £1
weight = 3 charge = £1.50
weight = 4+ charge = 0

In fact in as you are using Act 7, you could use an even simplier method, by setting all postage to zero, and simply adding the postage charge into the product cost, setting a price break up for qty of 4 or more:
ie 1-3 price = product price+50P
4 or more price = product price only

I'm not sure whether your store is finished yet, and you are trading, but you need to check out the alignment of your left hand 'store sections' table, which is out of alignment in Firefox (not checked IE)

Its out-of alignment in IE, as well. This may be intentional. Store Sections menu also overlaps the sections below it. Not sure about the see-thru menus - very difficult to read. Nice overall appearance. Hmm... where have I seen dynamic menus on an Actinic site before?

Tend to agree with the previous post when it comes to the postage side, getting the postage right is so difficult but such an important part of selling online....

Viewing in IE i too have a problem with your menu not lining up and also having great difficulty in seeing the menus as they seem to fade out heavily. I would look to modify this urgently as it will put people off from visiting you...

Thanks for the replies and great feedback. The site: www.aloeveragifts.com isn't finished yet and I am aware of the issues with the menu etc - which I'm frantically trying to sort out ---- you know when it works and then all of a sudden something strange has happened- but you don't know what?? - well that's what I'm faced with - The menu shouldn't have any fade on it at all but just investigating how to fix it.

My initial site works:www.aloevera-and-you.com - but is very very slow!! and not that pleasing on the eye.

With regards to postage, I'll get onto that asap - thanks for the advice - and I'll let you know when it's fully operational.
