    V7 running like a dog on a laptop?

    I've experienced this problem several times now on different spec laptops - basically for whatever reason Actinic Catalog V7.06 runs like a dog - everything takes ages to do. It runs perfectly fine on a desktop machine, but on two different laptops I face the same problem.

    Latest spec laptop is :

    Intel Core Due T2600
    2GB ram
    100GB 7200 drive
    Nvidia 7900 GTX Go
    Wireless 54g
    Win XP Pro

    Any ideas? I tried a search and couldnt find anything useful.

    I frequently run 705 on my laptop and it's performance although slower than my desktop PC is still acceptable. My laptop spec is far less than the one your using too. I always work with auto preview off and only preview when I want - that makes a big difference.

      I too use a laptop all the time - everything runs fine.

      What particular processes take a long time and which ones run ok?

      do other apps run ok

        Thanks for the quick replies! Regards which process takes the time it's basically the refreshing of the screen/previewing (I think!). Loading the app is virtually instant but when I want to do something like edit a fragment, or add something I have to wait for anything up to 20 seconds before it will let me. I also get a "not responding" message at the very top.

        I've just exported the snapshot, loaded it up on my desktop and made the necessary edits, resaved it and imported it back on to my laptop. This is quicker for me, although it's quite a ridiculous situation.

          In Actinic why not select the Simple View (left hand icon at top) and only preview when needed that will speed things up a lot.

            Okay I've done this and it works - and its instant too but I like to work with the preview. I cant understand why I get this huge delay?? It must be a bug.

              Although your time is slower than mine I doubt it's a bug (perhaps design related though) - in the past a number of people have mentioned this but 20seconds seems longer than expected. Perhaps it's something related to 706 (I'm running 705).

              (On my laptop it takes about 10 seconds to preview after each change - which I find painful. On my desktop it's much faster - about 2-3 seconds)

              Maybe others running 706 on a laptop can comment...Jo are you running 706?

                I hear what you are saying but this is definitely not "normal operation" - literally everything I do that involves ammendment to the existing data results in this significant delay on my laptop. Even importing the acd file takes a few minutes (and its virtually instant on my desktop - it's 3mb by the way so not big by any stretch of the imagination). It seems to scan through every single file really slowly - it's very odd! Like I said, the initial delay has gone away using the no preview mode but I'm not happy with that.

                Just to add, everything else on this "uber" laptop runs as expected. It's just Actinic, and yes I am using 7.06.

                  Just a thought, it's not antivirus realtime protection on the mdb and ldb files perhaps - if so you could try and exclude mdb ands ldb files and see if it helps.

                    I just disabled my AV and it hasnt made any difference.

                    Opened Actinic - initial simple preview takes 20 seconds to show before I can use the software - I click on fragment - 19 seconds to wait before I can use it - I click in the fragment box to ammend some text - 20 seconds.. make a typo, preview it, 20 seconds etc etc.

                      There have been other threads about the preview slowing things down.

                      Personally I don't use it, I do all design work in DW and then use actinic/browser to view changes

                        I only wish I could do most of it in DW.. Alas my development skills arent that great.

                          Are you using javascripts within your site? Do you have alot of sections as well, if so and you are using the best seller theme or javascript sections, then it would possibly be this which is taking a long time to show. I've seen this happening before, especially when you check the preview pane and it refresh itself 3 times or more. It loading and rendering the javascript.

                          Please check this

                            I am using some CSS which is handled via DW and the menus might be javascript rollovers but it's only minimal. I'm not using many sections either, check it out for yourself at www.ep-uk.co.uk

                              I found an error in the css file which may be contributing to the problem

                              }.newstext {
                              font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
                              font-size: 10px;
                              color: #333333;
                              }
                              could use a newline between the closing bracket and the dot
                              }
                              .newstext {
                              font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
                              font-size: 10px;
                              color: #333333;
