Support for PDFs / Digital Downloads?

Hey, I'm new to the Actinic software, I'm working for a company that sells reports, and would like to expand to start selling them online in PDF format. Does Actinic support the sale of PDFs? Or is it designed specifically for the sale of physical items? Security is also a big issue for the company as they wish to avoid the reports getting circulated online (although they accept that there is always a risk involved)

Many thanks for any info or advice!

Hi Matthew, welcome to the forum.

Actinic can handle any digital file downloads using its "Digital Download" feature. This works by creating a product and attaching the download file to it.. these can be PDF's JPEG's, MP3's etc. You can set the expiry period for a download to only be available say 24 hours after purchase

Actinic uploads and prefixes the files with a random number. The customers adds the "product" to the cart and proceeds to pay for the item. They then receive a confirmation and an email which contains the link to the digital download.

There is no way anyone can second guess the file name to download without paying due to the very long and random prefix assigned by Actinic which is stripped out upon download.

If you get Actinic Audio Store, instead of Actinic Catalog + the Digital Download add on, it works out cheaper at £499 all in. Although it's called Audio Store, you can use it to sell any type of digital product including pdfs.

Audio Store is, to all intents and purposes, simply Actinic Catalog with Digital Download enabled, so doesn't include certain other features found in Business and Developer versions.

We sell digital downloads and have used a variety of hosts such as media max andd e-junkie.com.

Is it possible to sell downloads ourselves manually ie that we email a link for the download rather than it being automated. Even when zipped the folder size is too big for emailing.

You see we have to manually process card payments and we wouldn't want to forward a link before we were sure we had payment for it.
