Slow site all of a sudden

    Hi,

I am looking after a site at demexicosilver.com. I am providing the hosting and did not build the site. All of a sudden it has decided to run slowly. I have been in touch with my hosting company who say there is no problem their end and all other websites run well on the server. The problem is across multiple networks so it is not limited to my clients network, any ideas?

    Cheers
    Andy

It took a few seconds to load the homepage the first time (maybe 7 seconds - not fast), but generally it loads quick - especially after caching - there's quite a lot of images to load initially. There's about 120 images at about 5k each in the bracelets section for example which is large if you don't have broadband.

Edit: Spoke too soon - necklaces took about 10 seconds with only a few images. If it's sufddenly changed then surely it must be hosting.

If the page content is the same as before, i.e. same level of images and content, then it would usually point towards the hosting having some difference that is affecting the speed of page loading, which (although images would not be affected) see if they are using mod_deflate to compress the html page content, which can have a dramatic effect on speeds of pages.

There is a link somewhere within the forum to a page checker that tells you if the page is compressed or not for better speed, but can not put my finger on it right now.

If that is not the issue, then maybe a specific question about what other Actinic sites are on the server and take a look at those to see how well they load up maybe (thats if they will provide you with that kind of information).

On a 512kb connection all the pages appeared instantaneously for me using Firefox at 9.10pm

If this is an intermittant issue sounds like the hosts are sharing with some high-traffic sites.. possibly from different countries if the times are restricted to certain times of the day.

I would go back to them and ask for a quieter server or a better contention ratio to help speed things up at the busy times

No problem for me using ie. Infact I would say the site was very fast to load, especially with so many images.
