    Base files upload problem

    Hi there

I have had a look about for this one but without any joy.

I am trying to upload the catalogue but each time I do it gets stuck at the base files and then times out after a few seconds. I have then tried to refresh the website and again it stops at the base files. The network test appears fine however.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    chris

If you aren't already, try using enhanced FTP - you can then play around and increase timeouts and retries etc. When you say it gets stuck - what's the error message?

      Hi duncan

Yeah I am using enhanced FTP - how do I go about changing the time out length.

There is no error message, it just says the 'operation has timed out' and gives the option to retry or cancel.

      Cheers

Advanced| Network Settings - FTP Options. I think I changed mine some time ago to: Client Timeout 15000, Connection Timeout 25000, Silent Running Checked, Max Retries 30, Retry Delay 3000. Don't remember what the deafults are though.

Problem solved and I think the site is back up. Many thanks duncan.

Would much appreciate it if you could have a look, all things appear normal for me though

By the way, how do I find out about the size of the website. Half way through the FTP upload, an error message says there was a problem with permissions, or it was out of disk space???????

          Thoughts welcomed.

          cheers

It appears to be working from I what I looked at. Regarding the size - you can get a rough idea by checking the size of your Site1 folder.

You could try another refresh and see if it still gives you the same error.

              I will be honost,

The last one took all of 35 minutes... is that normal???

The way I feel right now, I don't think I will ever change it again!!!!! It appears any time I touch it, something else goes wrong.

Most server control panels should tell you how much space you have taken / left

It depends entirely on your uplink connection speed - and of course how many pages had changed. If you just change one small product description it shouldn't upload the whole site, just that page, which should be quick.

                        I have 50.5mb, 46.7mb, 8.63mb, 10.4mb...

The largest on a 1mb broadband takes about 4 minutes after say a Act_Primary change ... the large part of the folder will be taken up with the database which is not uploaded don't forget.. best to check on the actual server

                          Duncan

I had changed a good few things actually. I was attempting to change the names of a few pages, trying to make it nice for google and such like. A few of my pages are copy_of_copy_of, which doesn't look too good.

Anyway, half way through changing it I uploaded and started to run into trouble. Like most things I don;t understand I tried to reverse the process. All hell broke loose at that point.

As for uplink connection speed, this evening appeared quite slow, it has zoomed up in the past.

                          Cheers

If you have a 256k uplink it might take about 30 minutes (if my math is good at this time of night) for 40Meg
