    Uploading base files problem

    Hi guys

I have a problem uploading the base files for the catalogue. I thought I had the problem sorted, as it kept timeing out, but I then changed the network stettings to stop that.

Now the system justs 'hangs' and nothing happens when the upload gets to sending base files. On the odd ocassion it does make it through the base files, it then gets stuck at the catalogue files.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong. I have Norton, but it is disabled during the process.

    Many thanks in advance

    chris

Out of interst have you tried to manually upload a large amount of files to your server? It may be worth a try to see if you also have similar problems outside of Actinic.

        Hi duncan

This seems to be a bit of an ongoing problem, just got back to see an error message saying the upload could not continue because of 'permissions, or 'out of disk space'.

It offerred me a choice whether to allow actinic to try and change the permissions which I opted for.

As for uploading other files to my server outside of actinic, I do not have any need, nor would know where to begin with that.

The upload is moving very slowely, is this likely to be a server issure???

        cheers

The catalogue is now being uploaded by html and not FTP, what does that mean if you don't mind me asking?

Are there any issues I need to be concerned about with that?

          Cheers

It is being uploaded by http

the tp part is transport protocol, giving FTP = File Transport Protocol and http = Hyper Text Transport Protocol - in other words, the programme has given up trying to talk to your server in FTP langauge, and is now trying plain old browser language.

What sort of connection are you using? Dial up modem, Broadband, wireless? Who is your ISP?

What sort of hosting do you have and which hosting service?

Any firewalls/routers involved? What FTP settings are you using (NOT username and password, but passive/enhanced etc)?

              Hi Bill

I am having a good few problems with this, yes you are correct it is HTTP.

connection is broadband about 1MG download, ntl.
Hosting is by end design and only been having problems uploading in the last 2 weeks or so.

FTP enhanced, and firewall from Norton, but disabled.

              Any thoughts?

What package are you on with end design? I see on their website they have packages that start at 10Mb server space - perhaps you have run out of space as the message says.
You can get a very rough idea of the minimum size needed for your server by looking at the size of your site1 folder in Actinic.
I think whilst trying to solve this yourself you should contact support at end designs - because it was fine until about two weeks ago, and in light of everything you have tried, it seems to point to a server issue.

                  Hi again

I am on the 10Mb package and my site1 folder is about 40Mb

I did wonder about that one, and this is really getting frustrating. Tell me though, the site has not changed much in the last while, but seemed to work before. Why would it all start going strange now?

                  cheers

Not sure Chris I'm afraid. When you checked the size of the site1 folder - I didn't say but you would need to exclude the other folders and the databases - you only want to guestimate the size of the files alone.
