    Hidden and Associated Products

I have a series of products around 20, each available in different pack weights; 1,4, and 10. So that Actinic uses the correct weight I am going to set up three pack sizes 1, 4 and 10 (Pack weight 1,Pack weight 4, Pack weight 10) as hidden products each specifying a different weight. Then I presume I need to associate the hidden pack (with the weight) with the appropriate permutation by using the associted product (Pack weight 1,Pack weight 4, Pack weight 10) . I was intending to leave the text description fields and image fields blank in the hidden product but as I may be using some of the hidden products as real have full product information.

My question is what data gets carried over when a product choice ie permutation is associated with a hidden product (pack weight 1) and what takes priority.

For example is it only price and weight fields that are taken from the associated product or does it include data from fields if data exists.

I am trying to ensure that only the weight is taken from the hidden product and not any other data that might be in the hidden product such as a price or other information. I will be using price override to specify the actual prices to be used in the choices.

    Thanks

    John

If you are adding the three choices as components on a new dummy product, then you have checkboxes where you select to use the associated price, tax handling and/or product name. If you leave these blank nothing is visible to the customer except the text you allocate to the component.

      Component

      Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply. At the moment I have the following tree set up:

      Product Type ie candle
Then first attribute which is the wattage selected by radio button
then a second attribute which is quantity as a drop dwon list. So it looks like:

      Product: Candle
      Atribute
      9w
      11w
      Attribute
      1 x BC cap
      4 x BC cap
      10 x BC cap....
      1 x ES cap
      4 x es cap
      10 x es cap
      1 x ses cap.......and so on

The shipping weight of a single, 4 and 10 unit pack vary and I am trying to get this picked up correctly by Actinic. I assumed that if I create a hidden product for the various weights with no other info other than name and short description:
      productweight1,
      productweigt2,
      productweight3

If I then associate each product in the permutations tab with these hidden products then would just the weight be picked up. So 1 bc and 1 es would be associated with product weight1, 4 bc and 4 es would be associed with productweight4 etc., and nothing taken over to the cart say. Or do I have to create hidden products for every permutation each with description, price and weight?

Using a component as you suggested I can't see how I would just get the weight carried over?

      Thanks
      John

I just tried this out on my test space.

I created three dummy products called Single Pack, Four Pack and Ten pack each with a weight, but no other detail.

I created a real product 100w standard light bulb and added three components (each component set up to use 1 of the associated item)

When I ordered 10 light bulbs, and selected the Ten Pack option, it added 10 times the weight I had entered against that dummy product, likewise it multiplied the weight I had set on the four pack.

So, I proved the concept, but learned that the weight setting has to be per unit.

          Bill,

Thanks. I have created versions of the three products each linking to a spscific product and am in the process of testing it. Hopefully that should avoid the multiple weight issue you identified.
