Invalid permutation creates cookie lock up

Can anyone offer any advice. We have a number of products that are made up of components not all permutations of sizes and colours exist and where the customer makes an invalid selection they get the standard error message that this choice is not available when they try to add to the basket.

However once that message is seen once and I continue shopping I can no longer add any product to my basket I just get in a loop with the error message displaying. It is only when I clear the actinic cookie from my machine that I can get back to a normal shopping experience.

Have we set something up wrong or is this a known issue?

That is not normal behaviour. Is this replicable from other computers, if you have tried only on your computer it could be down to a caching issue on your PC. Let us know if this is replicable from other PC's as well.
