Spend £20 get a different product free

    Hi there,

I would like to offer customers a free product when they spend £20 or more and ideally I would like the free product to be shown in the shopping cart.

I've looked through this forum, the Actininc software and the advanced technical guide and I don't see anything that suggests you can do this - any idea's ?

    Many thanks,

    TBird1

You don't say what flavour of Actinic you have - Catalog/Business/Developer, but I see a choice in View | Discounts and Surcharges - Cart Contents - a choice to give 100% discount on a specified product.

Are you saying that you have got this far, but you want the product to magically add itself to the basket when the trigger limit is reached?

      Hi Bill,

Its v7 Business that I have.

I've a fair grasp of providing a monetary discount based upon amount spent.

What I would like to do is have a product that gets added to the basket automatically when a certain amount has been spent.

I've done a bit more work since first posting this morning and I can see that I can use static html text on the shopping cart pages to indicate that qualifying orders will get the free gift and that this transaction is handled seperatly from the shopping cart system.

Might help if you wanted to take a peek at www.test.nectardirect.com

Our preference would be to have the free product added to the cart of qualifying customers as the customer will be able to see the offer at point of sale (as it were) and would also recieve details in their confirmation email, order acknowledgment, invoice etc.

If you can think of anyway of improving what I've done so far or to achieve the ideal goal as outlined above please let me know.

      Kind regards

I thought that was what you meant.

If you decide to keep the static page Offer.html, you might want to change the first bullet point to read "Only one FREE item per order"

If you look for adding to cart from anywhere on the internet, you should find some code that could go behind a button marked add xxxxx to your basket and that button could appear on the view basket page.

If the user clicks the button the item would be added - if they qualify, the price would be discounted - if they don't qualify they would be charged.

You probably already know this, but the 40 pound discount has to be first in the list and the 20 pound second - if not, no-one will ever get past the 20 pound to reach the 40.

        Hope that helps.

That would almost . . . but not quite do it. If I follow what you are suggesting then there is a possibility customers could add the promotional item to their basket and if they don't qualify for it to be free they would be charged. I wouldnt do this.

Simplest thing may be to just stick with static version.

          Thanks again

No worries - have only thrown together for proof of concept at this point.
