    Is this possible / advisable?

Our site runs at 775 wide fixed. We use Smart so the product images are not the biggest. We also want to move to 2 columns for products which will involve smaller images. At the moment we put the description with the product and don't have pop-up pages for info.

Now, what I would like to do is to offer quantity discounts and also some upsells for each product. This would be much better if done one product per page. This would also allow us to remove the detailed info from the small product and just have a link through to the one per page duplicate where there would be detailed info.

I don't want to do this with fragments as I want people to be able to add to cart from both the small product in the main list and also from the product per page listing.

I could do this by creating products with slightly different codes but that were otherwise identical and link to the large one from the small one.

Basically my question is, how do I create these one product per page items without them appearing in the main list on the left hand side?

Thanks Nick, I really like your site by the way. Looks great. The way that your Sgt Pepper thing works is almost exactly what I want except I would like a qty box and add to cart on the thumbnail as well as a text link to the main product page.

Basically what I have done is to have a section (Blank DVD) then a list of subsections (DVD-R, DVD+R etc.) Within these I had products which all appeared in a row.

If I put an extra subsection in above each product then the DVD-R page will show a list of thumbnails which I can add images and text to. So far, so good. I can also click the image to go to the main product page although I didn't do anything to set this up! I have not played with the thumbnail layout yet.

So, how do I get the qty box and add to cart button to appear in the thumbnail? I've read and re-read the link and I can't seem to figure it out. Any tips?

if I've read this right your thumbnails are at section level? if this is correct you can't have an add to cart at this level you can only have it at product level

Yes, thats right. Getting confused with this now. I also want to offer a single price only on the small image and qty options on the main one.

How about this as a solution which I have got to work fine?

For every item I sell I create 2 products that are the same, maybe PROD 100 and PRODx100. The first appears in the main list and has a small image so I can fit them 2 to a row and not much text. It does have an add to cart button and a text link to PRODx100 which is a section down so doesn't appear in the main list and is only accessable from this link. That product has qty prices and much more info.

Browsers would see the smaller listings initially but would be able to click through to the duplicate product.

It does work exactly as I want it to and is not much more admin. I can hide one set from Froogle feeds etc.

Can anyone see any other problems with doing this? Would it be considered SEO spamming?

Forget that idea, I can already see problems.

OK, getting somewhere with this now (light bulb moment) using duplicates and subsections. I now have the duplicate products with smaller images and little text lined up 2 to a row and then the main product on it's own page with only one column, as I wanted. I've yet to link them but that should be easy enough.

My next problem is that I want to offer quantity pricing but only have it appear on the main product page, not the duplicate. In the duplicate the pricing tab is greyed out so I can't change it. Thats fine because I want the duplicate to have the pricing model but I just don't want to show it at that stage. Any ideas?

Are you trying to do this from the same template? If so, I can't see how you'd do it. I have one template for the thumbnail and another one for the full prod details. (not that i've applied it throughout my site yet).

I assumed that Act_Productline would apply to both the duplicate and the original. I have now got to a stage where all the thumbnails are displayed 2 to a row and the images and text link lead to the main product with a bigger picture and more text.

What I want to do is to apply qty pricing to many items so you get £1 off if you buy 5 for example. Doing this makes the qty price appear below the main price. This is fine in the main product but I'd like to have the qty pricing effective in the thumbnail but just not displayed.

How can I use a different template for each?

You can create a different Act_ProductLine template (maybe MyAct_ProductLine1) for different appearance of the same product info (or duplicate). You can select the template you wish to use in Actinic - On the Prduct - Layout Tab - Product Layout - Select the one you want.

Excellent, thanks. Now I just need to work out how to make the template not show the extra price info.

                          Should be reasonably straight forward......
