Adding a 30% Surcharge to the Cart

Hi our site is specifically setup with prices shown for members. They do not need to login to access the site but we do accept orders from Non-members but non-members are subject to a 30% surcharge. We need to be able to very simply add a 30% surcharge when a non-member process and order. This could be as simple as if they tick non-member it adds to the total. The user defineable field asks for a membership number. If this was empty could this trigger the 30% surcharge? Any ideas gratefully received.

    Hi Simon

Please refer the steps given below to add a 30% surcharge to the cart for the non-members on your store.

    - Go to 'View | Discounts and Surcharges settings | click Order Level tab | click General tab' and tick Enabled under Properties
-Now under 'Triggers' set the 'Cart Value' as £0.10 and 'Percentage' as 30.00 and tick 'Surcharge' checkbox.
-Click on 'Restrictions' tab and tick 'Restricted to Customer Group' and a new grid for 'Retail' group.
    -Apply and click Ok.
    _ Now upload the site.

    I hope this helps.

      Hi Simon,

adding surcharges is generally a bad option marketing / sales wise, especially if there is no need to login... I trust you have good links on the site explaining on how to become a member and the benefits etc.

There is also the issue concerning the sale of goods in the prices shown should be what are paid so you really need to be displaying the non-members price alongside the standard members price and not just leaving it in the cart to process the surcharge.

You may already be doing this so apologies if this is already covered but thought worth mentioning

Thanks but this doesn't seem to work. I have added exactly as suggested but by default the cart shows the 30% surcharge with no option to select wether you are a Member or Non Member. The users of the site do not login so how will we distinguish between standard price and non-members price with surcharge ?

Thanks for your reply. There are plenty of links explaining the 30% non-member surcharge. As the members are part of a trade organisation they have to submit various documentation like proof of insurance and liability so its not easy to join and only the members enjoy the discount. I tried what was suggested but this did not actually work as all this did was add 30% as a default to the cart prices with no option to select member or non-member. Any ideas how to achieve this ?

The solution above works but not in your case as you are not using customer groups on which the method is based in the Actinic sense of the word.

The solution would be to set up a members group so this would show the trade price once logged in an the higher retail price to non-members - although there may be a reason why this is not feasible in your situation

Is there a way of having a generic login for all members using the same username and password ?

                Simon,

That should be very simple, go to View | Customer Groups and
                - Create a New Group Called 'Members', by clicking on the 'New' button
                - Click on 'Customer Pricing' and click on 'Member' then select 'Multiply by' and enter a value of 0.700
                - click 'Apply'

                In View | Customer Accounts
                - Click on 'New Customer'
                - Create a customer account, perhaps using the office address of the Trade Organisation
                - Create a Generic Username and Password
                - If you do not want them to see the retail prices, offered to normal customers, then select 'Hide retail Prices' on the buyers tab.

You can then associate this customer to the 'Member' customer group and send out the details to all members.

                Kind regards,
