    insecure checkout??

If anyone has a spare minute I'd be grateful if you could just point yourselves at www.cultpens.com, add an item to your basket, and go through as far as the card details page. I've had a couple of reports from customers in the last week that their browser is reporting that the site is not secure at this point. Firefox 1.5 and IE 6.0.2900 are fine for me here so I'm a little perplexed, but possibly given the state of most people's PC's this may happen to all of us?

    Cheers,

Looked fine for me (ie. 6.0.29) . I went as far as the payment page and then cancelled. All the checkout was on https.

        Hi Simon,

I checked it from my system (IE 6 and Win XP Pro) and the little lock came up fine.

I notice that there is no obvious SSL certificate, could that be what customers are referring to rather than it going to https??

Something that we have had with our site is redirection problems which cause the perl scripts not to work properly on the cart pages. Admittedly we have about 4 domains pointing to the site and only one has the SSL cert applied to it but even with hardcoded links this sometimes goes AWOL. It appears to be something to do with cookies and temporary files but not sure what and it resolves itself!!!!

        Hope this helps!

Many thanks everybody. Both customers were adamant that their browsers actively told them that the site was insecure. No doubt some horribly configured browsers or dodgy security-advisory package.

I have had the same thing. Contact Actinic and get an SSL page for £99 worked a treat for me

Cult pens already has an SSL cert, which is why the question was asked.

There are many methods of securing a site, SSL is just one of them

                  Hi Simon,

Your site worked fine for me on FF 1.5.0.4 and XP Pro

The checkout was a little slow to load however, so much so that I thought there was a problem. It took 10 seconds on FF to load the checkout page from an empty cache. That might put people off?

We're on a 8 meg connection here so it wasn't our connection speed.

                  Good luck.

Thanks for looking. I know the site is slow - the result of being on an overloaded shared server with a useless hosting company. We've started the process of moving to a dedicated server with a hopefully more responsive hosting company.
