Actinic won't read my (crystal) reports

I've created a new DataEntry.rpt file using Crystal Reports, and saved the original one under a different name (DataEntry2.rpt).

All I've done is add a table for our packers to initial when they've fulfilled their part of the order process. I haven't added anything that needs to look at the database or anything like that. It's just a table - purely visual.

But Actinic won't print the Data Entry Report any more. It comes up with a message saying 'Unable to load report' when I try to print. Even if I rename the backup (DataEntry2.rpt) as DataEntry.rpt it still won't work.

What am I doing wrong?

Acinic is only compatable with CR 8.5 - if you used another version it cannot work.

You'll need to restore a backup. If you don't have one then post you're Actinic version and someone can email you the originals you need.

Edit: if your on 705 and it's the DataEntry Report you need then see atached.

That file worked perfectly. I did try restoring the backup, but it didn't make any difference. I also tried copying the files from the CD of an earlier version, but that just created a different error message.

Still, it's all over now! Once again, thankyou very much.

EDIT: While we're on the subject, does anyone know why Actinic's only compatiable with v8.5 of Crystal Reports?

Yes, it is because Crystal Reports changed their data representation and storage method as part of their next "upgrade" and that broke the functionality Actinic was built to support.

Thankfully this happens less often now, but there was a time when every patch had to be tested against every application on a server before it could be installed. (Not so fond memories).

Page 73 of the AUG shows how to add our own reports, BUT - you cannot add a report to work with a selected order, only overall reports.

I've spoken to our developers and it is because the C++ code is used to filter the orders selected and apply specific reports to them and your custom report won't be referenced in the C++ code in the software.

I need to be able to make custom Delivery notes and custom packing lists.

Well i have crystal reports and am able to create reports, but what i want to be able to do is have more than the "packing list" and "invoice", i would like to be able to print a:

"Packing list" to go to the warehouse
an "Internal Invoice" that will go to accounts
an "Invoice" to go to the customer
and a "Delivery note" to go inside the package.

I can create these in crystal reports, but would love to be able to do it indevidually for each order rather than what was stated above about doing a complete report.

Why don't you modify the reports to include two reports so for you would have this :

This would replace the current packing list - just call it orders.rpt and put it in your main Actinic directory and it will be used.

This would replace your current invoice - just call it invoices.rpt and put it in your main Actinic directory and it will be used.

if this is the same as the warehouse packing list, just print 2 copies, if it isn't use the 'page break after this section' and 'reset page number' options in the report and put the details for this report next (so you are in effect putting the two reports in one report and forcing page breaks between them).

as above but for the packing list.

Yeh, that would work.

Just a shame it doesnt allow for alternate reports.
