I cant get my emails to send...comes up with cannot connect to SMPT server. It works when i run a test in advanced networksetup though...which is really strange! I want to have emails sent when a customer orders automatically without my doing it- is that possible?

Hi Tom
It's definately possible to have emails sent automatically when a customer places an order. Make sure that 'Send Receipt Email to Customer' is ticked in Business Settings | Ordering. It is advisable to use the smtp mail server address given to you by your web host.
If you are still having problems, could you email me your ftp access details, the smtp server address and your email address in Business Settings | Company/Contact. My email address is bpsupport@actinic.co.uk

having the same problem
I am using hypermart.net and my web site details are different from my smtp server.
My SMTP is server-mail.hypermart.net while my ftp is raineandshine.com. I can't seem to get it to acknowledge the SMTP server.
Will that 'localhost' in the SMTP details work for that? What I have been doing as a workaround is copying the email from actinic and emailing it manually.J.A. Arroyo

Well it works for all of our clients across different servers etc and a large number of those that we have suggested it to have managed it aswell.
Give it a go and see what happends, it is only a simple change in the network config to give it a go.
You might need to update your site when you assign the new smtp server within the Actinic software...
Best of luck...

Tried the local host
Here is the response I received:
The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again.
then,
Mail server messages:
220 server508.hypermart.net ESMTP
Hostname "server508.hypermart.net"
250 server508.hypermart.net
250 ok
553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
Failed 4 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
Any ideas?J.A. Arroyo

Im having this problem with SMTP too.
I am within a network using winXP connection sharing and i am not the host. The host uses Norton Firewall but I have tried with this disabled and still get the same problem.
It appears that DNS isnt working for some reason afterwards as the lookup fails. can someone give me an SMTP server to try or an ip address to try that they know works?
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks.

I have a patch for Actinic 6 that uses SendMail (or whatever mailer your host uses) instead of SMTP. I've just amended it so it works with V5 as well. If your host doesn't have SMTP (or only allows authenticated SMTP) then give it a try. It requires your host to have the Perl Mail::Mailer module installed so you may have to check that first.
It's at www.rouxel.cwc.net/actinicstuff.html - down at the bottom.

When I initially set my site up, I couldn't get my confirmation e-mails to send from Verio's smtp.rapidsite.net server either.
The setting they give in the FAQ is utter tosh. It will refuse to send your mails claiming that you are trying to use it as a relay which is rubbish (but understandable I guess in this day and age).
A quick e-mail to their support people solved the problem quickly enough though
