Nildram / Windows 2000 IIS hosting

    Hi

We've recently moved a website to Nildram for hosting and when I came to upload the store I found I had a problem with the CGI-BIN being non existent.

I emailed Nildram and 7 days later got a reply. They say that the CGI-BIN is only available on Linux or Unix hosting and not on Windows as it's a shared server.

Is my only solution to simply change to a Linux / Unix hosting package??

    Thanks

    Ben.

A cgi-bin could/would/should exist on Windows servers, the provider just needs to provide that service and establish it within your settings.

Do they say that they provider Perl/cgi-bin's on the windows packages?

If the answer is no, then see no option but to switch to the linux option, as you can not run your Actinic site without perl/cgi-bin abilities.

You could also send your host an email asking them what they can or cannot provide. If you look in C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\ you should see a text file 'Mail2hst.txt', copy the contents of this file into an email and send to your host. The responses they send you would help you determine if you can or cannot run Actinic on their server.

Have attached the file for your reference.

      Kind regards,

We use a windows server without any problems - so I guess another solution would be to move hosts.

Unix/Linux servers are usual better at running Actinic though.

          Thanks for your replies.

I will indeed email that file to them and find out.

All it says is that Perl is included in the hosting, I have been told since posting my message that I will definitely need to move to the unix hosting.

I don't really get it though as I was aware it could be hosted on windows servers without any problems, I guess this host is just awkward or something.

Well thanks again for your replies, I think we'll move it to unix servers now.

          Cheers

          Ben
