HSBC - CPI to API integration

    Hi,

We have launched a site ( www.cargo-online.co.uk ) it is integrated with HSBC but at the moment when a payment is made it directs to the HSBC site. My customer spoke to HSBC as he does not want it to direct away as it degrades the look and feel by switching from site to site.

So HSBC's answer was just send a fax and request a change in the payment method from CPI to API, but what is the implication on actinic? can actinic handle this? presumably it then works via xml for the auth. Any advise on the implications of this or anyone done this?

    Cheers

      Not possible I am afraid.

The details being passed to HSBC along with all other PSPs is in a single set of details, which the PSP receives and then delivers a payment receipt page to the end buyer.

API methods are backdoor connections, where your site takes receipt (within an SSL page) of the customers card details, then sends it via a back channel to the PSP, where the PSP does its stuff and then sends a response back on the back channel, which your site picks up and then shows the buyer the end result of confirmed or refused etc.

Actinic is not compatible with back-end or also called 'invisible' payment processing systems.

Only way you can achieve something like this would be to use SSL on your site and manually take receipt of the card details for later processing through a terminal (online or local), but check the terminal is authorised to process Internet received transactions as it differs in the rules from card holder not present.
