Displaying original and discounted prices.

I posted this yesterday but no replies... is that because I should be able to work it out myself or is it because it's not easy to do ?

Anyway,

I don't know if I am missing something simple but I'm trying to display discount and original prices on my product pages.

I need to apply a 25% discount to all products, so went into discounts, set up a group containing all products set 25% discount in cart contents with a trigger of £0.01.

When I go into product pages the old price is still displayed, and the discount only applied at checkout, but this does not really let customer know how much they are saving as they go along.

Is there an easy way of displaying both original and discounted prices without having to manually edit the descriptions? I have quite a few products which will be changing regularly.

Any Ideas?

The discounts in Actinic work in the way you have found out. There is no way that Actinic can track the 'old' price.

What you can do however is what you have already mentioned by adding the original pricing into the descriptions or by defining a custom variable and giving it the 'old' pricing to display - much to the same end. You can modify your pricing by importing and exporting the catalog and make the modifications to the pricing in excel. A custom variable might simplify this process and could perhaps be the result of a calculated field. Either way would involve some work.

Perhaps thinking outside the box here mght help - how about creating a striking small graphic that draws attentoin to the discount vs RRP or something that will not need maintaining?

Just to clarify though, actinic is displaying the original, non discounted price on the product page, and applying the discount at the checkout.

Would it be possible to export the database to excel, write a formula to calculate sale price and append it to the product description, then re-import the database again? Just a thought.

You can do this two ways, one is to Export your catalog (File | Export ) which will create a hierarchical file. You can make the changes in here for all products and then import back into Actinic. The other option is to create a SQL query to update the database.

If you search for 'Strikethrough' on the forum, it should yeild a few threads that will describe in detail how to use a Customvar to do the same thing.
