Calculating price

I'm putting some blinds onto our site, and I would like to give the option for customers to put in the width and length they require, and calculate the price, without having to click on add to shopping cart, would anyone know how this is done?

I have seen this done on an Actinic site (cant recall where) using Ajax to update the prices dynamically and to great effect .... this would require some major modifications by a programmer
