    disappearing sections

We've used Actinic for a few years, and have never had this problem before. No new, or inexperienced staff have been near the PC.

We lost a whole section on saturday - this morning we lost another one.

Is there any way this could happen, without us physically cutting the sections?

    Really, really strange.

I presume you're referring to from within Actinic and not on your site.
Have you purged and compacted regularly? If not try it and see if it helps. Otherwise perhaps raise a support ticket with Actinic and let them check your database.

      Thanks

We do both quite regularly. Next stop Actinic support.

      Really worrying stuff!

Have you expanded the whole tree, just to check they have not accidentally been dragged inside another existing section?

I can imagine a situation where a sticky mouse would do this without you noticing.

we have searched everywhere, both physically and using the search facility.

That's strange because we too lost one of our sections the other day (the first section in our shop) and had to import an old snapshot to recover it - lost quite a bit of work as a snapshot wasn't taken while I was away on holiday. I did check that the section hadn't been dragged within another one but no, completely gone!

Same version as I am using. I have my own site live on line and five customer sites - none of those are losing sections.

Are these newly added sections that disappear - or is it random - any position in the section tree?

If it's the last section you just added - do you have hard disk cache enabled or direct write?

I have 3 V7 sites running and when I got back from holiday, one of the shops told me that a complete section had disappeared. At first I thought that someone had cut the section out by mistake (not even deleted it) but was assured that nobody who didn't know what they were doing had touched Actinic while I had been away save to download any orders. The missing section was the first one on the tree. I also thought perhaps it had been inserted in another section by mistake and was hiding there but a search on the site revealed the conent to be completely missing.

It's a shame you can't import sections from one machine to another.

You can. With hierarchial importing you can import sections and products etc. Export from one machine then trim to what you want and import into the other machine.

If you haven't used hierarchial import/export before it can look a bit daunting, but it's not too bad after you get your head around it. Export first to see the format. (Don't import without first making a backup of the database)
