    vat in view basket

Hi we sell retail and all prices include vat in simple tax at 17.5%

Althought the price on the product is displayed with vat incluseive the price when 'viewing basket' is not.

The vat is showing at the end of the basket as a sperate total.

This means that a differnt price is showing for the product in the basket and confusing the customer.

How can i set this up so that the vat is included in all prices and all prices remain constent until the checkout where a vat total can be seen.

    Thanks

Why don't you simply have all prices inc of VAT. Why do you want to show VAt in the checkout?

If your end customers are retail then they don't give a monkeys about seeing VAT. In fact most people prefer not to see it

You can show both vat exclusive and vat inclusive pricing which will help the customer understand the basket display.

        hi, thanks for replys.
Ok, if i have actinic set up to include vat and show prices as exclusive why then does it change the price to exclusive in the 'view basket'

How do i stop it doing this.

I would be most greatful if you could let me know.

I need actinic to give me a vat line and for the customer to see no vat what so ever.

        How does one do this?

I'm not sure of that, but I see you have asked the same in the V8 forum so I hope there will be a reply there

hi, I had hoped v8 had this addressed but they dont.
It is a flaw in actinic and will not be addressed in v8 as yet.

Any ideas as to what other retailers do who sell to consumers.

Surley they dont all show them vat incluseive and exclusive.

This is an old chestnut and has been complained about so many times I've lost count - obviously Actinic is set up for the US market where "sales tax" is accounted for separately at the end of the purchase depending on which State you live in.

We're using business which if you are wholesale is OK as you would display net prices anyway with VAT at the end - but it's been a bugbear right from day one, even when we used catalogue which you would think would be 100% consumer orientated.

We don't want our prices to display net in the check out, order confirmations etc because as mentioned, it confuses customers even though the order total remains the same and the VAT inclusive price is displayed against the product.

If you're not VAT registered, it doesn't matter as you can just input your own price and turn VAT off - but if you need actinic for VAT reports or when using link to download your orders into your accounts where you need to have the VAT split, it's pretty badly thought out. Why you can't have a setting to include the VAT inc price through the whole store is beyond me - after all, it manages to display it correctly on the product!

The number of times we've had Mrs Miggins telephone to say last time I bought so and so, it was only £8.50 but this time you've charged me £9.99 and had to explain that actually we haven't ripped her off......... they don't understand and it makes you wonder if they actually feel like you're trying to pull the wool......

                Regards - Helen

hi,i got an email back froma ctinic stating this will not bee addressed until v9.

So i guess thats about two years away.

It looks like we might have to move away from Actinic as 99% of our business is with conumers and we have to put their needs first.

As a growing business we had hoped to be able to grow and use actinic as we became more established, tis does not seem the case.

I guess I am going to have to look at some other solutions for this problem and fundamentle error in actinic.

As with most things you learn the hard way, we started out with a free accounts package fromn the bank but that caused us lots of problems and eventually shelled out for sage line 50 which now does everything we need.

Its a shame as i like the actinic interface and having used it for 3 years we have spent time and money working with it.

I guess it has come to the end of the road for us and actinic.
