Slow Loading Website with Actinic v7

    Hi All,

I am really hoping someone can help. We have been working on a new website www.mobilityzone.co.uk and put a lot of time and effort into developing the website but whatever we do it always seems to take a long time to load the main page. Is there any way round this? I contacted Actinic Support and they suggested removing the "Use frames in Catalog" option in Misc and also unchecking the "Brochure is framed" option from the Brochure section but so far it still loads slowly. Also I have tried removing the 2 large images we normally have on the front page all to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks for your help.

    Kind Regards

    Mobzone.

The images are OK - it is the size of the section tree causing the problem:

    Documents (1 file) 7 kb

    Images (18 files) 28 kb

    Scripts (3 files) 527 kb
    http://www.mobilityzone.co.uk/acatal...ection_tree.js 519 kb
    http://www.mobilityzone.co.uk/acatalog/actiniccore.js 6 kb
    http://www.mobilityzone.co.uk/acatalog/actinicextras.js 1 kb
    Total 566 kb

      Re: slow loading

Thanks for your comments. So do have to reduce the amount of section headings we have or can we move some of them into others so they become sub-sections. Ie self propel wheelchairs moves into wheelchairs.? Thanks again.

I didn't find it took too long to load. I do not use photos in 'Products', just text, and keep photos for the individual product pages. If you remove the photos you may also be able to tidy up all the boxes so they are the same size. I think that symmetry would look much neater.

This is quite a common problem with this theme ie the act section tree gets very big and slows the download. I am sitting on a wirless half meg connection and it took quite a while.

Try changing themes or upgrade to V8 which I think does not use a section tree navigation for this theme.

or change the navigation menu in V7, its a bit early to be suggesting to people to upgrade to v8 - IMHO.

Advanced user guide describes all the different menus there are, and there's even more at Drillpine.biz

I only mentioned it because I know sales are offering FREE upgrades at the moment if you have bought V7 recently, which may be the case here.

Aren't upgrades free anyway if you pay the annual support fee?

in the past there has also been a cut off date, ie if you bought V6 after a certain date you would be entitled to V7 without having to buy cover.

I don't know if the same will apply to V7 purchases after a given date

I bought V7 15th May with no cover, emailed actinic about the upgrade and this is the reply:

                    Dear Haydn,

Yes you will, if you bought cover at the time, you would get a free upgrade. If not your can upgrade at a 25% discount.

                    Thanks

There are 3 dates giving 100%, 50% and 25% discount depending on the date you bought V7 - I cannot remember what they are but if you are in the 100% range and dont have cover then I think it is worth the upgrade. I dont know how long the offer will hold.
