The only way to move to v8 is to basically forget everything you know about v6 / v7 .. especially in terms of design ... as soon as you can do that a big smile will cross your face
It will take a few weeks of using v8 to get into the flow if used to previous version
Designing with V8 is significantly different from previous versions, but hopefully the upgrade from V7 will be relatively painless.
I guess the people who are going to feel the pain the most are the designers/developers who are used to designing one way and have to learn a new design methodology. For the rest of us we'll either keep our existing designs via the upgrade path or use a new template.
Having said that, my design was quite heavily customised and I'll need to do the same with V8 to get the layout I want. Fortunately I'm booked onto a 'Designing with V8' course this Thursday and hopefully that will help me get my head around the new stuff.

The biggest problem I find is still working on v7 sites whilst trying to get to grips with v8 ... if I could stop work on v7 and focus just on v8 then brilliant (but this is the real world).... swapping back and forth is the killer .. no doubt after a while it will be possible to work freely in both at the same time
Yes. I think there will be quite a few forum regulars there. I suspect Actinic are hoping that if they can get a few of us trained up then we'll be able to help out the others once V8 goes live.
I don't think the transition is going to be an easy one, as V8 is essentially a different animal. Look back on the posts made by developers a few weeks ago when we first saw it. There is so much that is new that we couldn't do before, it wil take a while for everyone to understand the inner workings
But there is so much flexibility there that once all the new stuff has been rolled out I am sure it will be the market leader.
As others have pointed out, there is still much to do with shipping, vat , reports etc that I am guessing we won't get the full monty until v9 or so. By then it will be a real monster - in the nicest way!

Thats actually my point. Its like starting again which many of us just do not need. Sorry for being probably the only forum member with a negative slant on the new version, but thats really how it is for us. Its more of a replacement than an upgrade. Possibly more geared to the designer types too?
