Redirecting to the acatalog folder. Would it cause problems?

    Hi,

i've been on the phone to actinic tech and they say it shouldnt cause any problems but am just wondering if any other actinic users have tried this with their website?

    Redirecting-

    www.autosafe.co.uk/autoglass

    to-

    www.autosafe.co.uk/autoglass/acatalog

Autoglass have 70k lefleats going out tomorrow, all with the - www.autosafe.co.uk/autoglass domain printed on them.

so i am just wondering if this will cause any problems with actinic?

So long as you set the redirect up properly you will be OK as it is not interfering with Actinic at all

        jont, thx for the reply.

I know php redirects cause actinic not to display shopping cart info on all pages except the checkout page -- Tried that last week - very odd(!)

I've asked my web-host to set up the redirect. So I don't think it would interfere like the php redirect did...

        Only time will tell!

If your server allows a redirect in a .htaccess file may be a quicker solution

would the .htaccess look somthing like this?

            redirect permanent /autoglass /autoglass/acatalog

            or this?

            redirect permanent /autoglass http://www.autosafe.co.uk/autoglass/acatalog

the second version is more correct though you may need the trailing slash on the new destination folder or the redirect will leave everyone looking for a file called acatalog in the autoglass folder.

              redirect permanent /autoglass http://www.autosafe .co.uk/autoglass/acatalog/

I deliberately added the space before .co to break the url.

                Thanks for the reply's,

It seems Active 24 (our_web_host) have messed up the re-direct. thus preventing anyone from viewing the contents of the two directories.

They are suggesting a HTTP meta request redirect while their engineers fix the fault...

Would a http meta redirect cause actinic any problems?

it won't cause Actinic any problems but Spiders will not be happy if you refresh is at 0

I'd refresh at 5 and put a brief message on the page to say the site has moved and you are automatically redirecting the visitor to the new site, with the usual "if you don't want to wait please click here"

                  That will keep everyone happy
