    Separate site shipping

    Hello Actinic community!

firstly I’d like to say what a fantastic wealth of information this forum has been thus far, and thank all of it’s many user’s and admin`s...

However having searched though the forum i find that i am missing an answer for my little problem:

We sell stock from 2 locations,

    1. Our own site where we charge shipping on per weight.

    2. A warehouse where there is a flat charge for any item no matter how big or small.

as such we have 3 scenarios...

    A. the customer buys only our in-house stock....

    B. the customer buys only our warehouse stock....

    C. the customer buys a combination of warehouse and in-house stock...

What we would like to do is have a flat charge for scenario B.
Our Weight charge for Scenario A.
and a flat + weight charge for Scenario C.

    Any ideas?

    Luke.

Set up shipping by weight and assign weight to all your in-house stock.

Set all the warehouse stock at 0.00 weight (don't forget to add a weight 0.00 cost 0.00 entry in your shipping table) and then add the shipping cost onto the product cost for all warehouse stock.

That’s fine until a customer buys multiply warehouse items,

if we say the flat rate charge is £10... for one item we would cover shipping... for 2 items we would be charging the customer an additional £10... for 3 £20 ect...

This would be a hefty charge and our prices would be uncompetitive

      Thanks for the suggestion though.

It would be down to you to look at historical data for how many warehouse items, on average, are bought at one time, and assign appropriate costs - maybe 3.50 per item - as you say, if they buy only one warehouse item, you will lose, and if they buy five you will gain.

You could monitor closely for the first few months and adjust as needed - still the only way I can see to accomplish the mix.

Messy, but here's how it could be done:

          1. Set up the weight based shipping tables for scenario A.

          2. For Scenario B, Assign a weight of 1,000Kg, say, to each of the warehouse products. Set the shipping tables so that each multiple of the warehouse weight has the flat charge. i.e.

          999kg-1001Kg £10.00
          1,999Kg - 2,001Kg £10.00
          2,999Kg - 3,001Kg £10.00

          3. Now fill in the weight based values from 1) to each of the 1000Kg bands, but add the fixed charge from 2) to the shipping cost.

This way, if a customer buys from both the warehouse and the in-house stock then he will be charged both shipping costs.

That’s a great idea… this is kind of how we have got round the problem to date, that all warehouse items are over a certain weight if some one orders that item they are charged that higher fee + a little bit extra to cover a possible shipment of our own stock, we pocket the money if there is only a warehouse item, and take the hit if there is both.

the only down side that I see to your idea is that we would need to do a large shipping table so that if a customer brought say 30 warehouse items we would have to do weights up to 30,999Kg - 40,001Kg

I will have a play about and let you know how we get on.
