    Shipping charge issue

I've just changed from charging shipping on an order value basis to a weight basis and something cropped up in an order yeterday. A customer order 4 product lines in various quantities and Actinic added a separate charge for each line, so whereas the total weight of the order kept it in the lowest shipping band, this charge was added four times. He was understandably discouraged.
Is this a bug or have I done something wrong?

I've just tried putting different quantities of an amplifier in the cart on your site and each one I added, adds a 9.95 standard delivery charge. I also tried a lighter item (Flash Drive bundle) and got a similar effect, but this time a 5.95 standard charge was being applied for each additional quantity. My guess is you haven't implemented shipping by weight correctly.

If shipping by weight was working properly, I would have expected to see the shipping cost go up at certain weight breakpoints using the total order weight.

You can test shipping charges be putting through manual order in Actinic

I use shipping by weight and it works fine, although you have to be careful to weigh the products accurately, with their packaging. Large combinations of products can end up with a total weight greater than their actual sum (because of allowances for packaging).

I have it set up to charge by total weight. I have two shipping zones (UK and Channel Islands), and 5 weight bands as follows:-
      up to 1Kg
      up to 5 Kg
      up to 10Kgs
      up to 20Kg
      up to 40Kg

The items in the order in question were all less than 1Kg and the total weight was under 1Kg. Each line in the order was reated as a separate package and so a separate charge was added. I had to manually "repackage" in Actinic which solved the problem, but I don't understand why it happened in the first place?

Check the send separately tick box on your products.

Just in the middle of a major site update so can't get into settings. If I remember correctly, the optimum weight was at the default which I think is 0.25. I'll check the other when the update is over.

Sounds as though that might be the problem then, an entry in the optimum weight box, is telling Actinic to try and split the shipment into a series of packages, each that size or smaller. I would clear that box and just leave it blank.

Thanks Bill, that makes sense now. I didn't know what that figure was for.
